Heres the ultimate guide how to get to play Homebrew, PSP and PSX games.

I wrote this to help everyone who is new to the PSP, so feel free to share this guide with other people.

You can downgrade and install custom firmware on all PSPs that have firmware 3.03 and below...

Firmware 3.10 and higher is not capable of being downgraded and having custom firmware installed on it at the moment...

Upgrading / Downgrading your PSPs firmware will write to the 'flash memory' of your PSP.

There is a very small risk of bricking your PSP when writing to flash memory.

All downgrades should be successful if you follow the instructions carefully and correctly.

Although you may be one of the unlucky few that the downgrade fails on.

By following this guide you understand the risks you are taking with your PSP.

Formatting your memory stick will erase 'everything' on it.

Please make a backup copy of any important files to your computer before you continue.

(Like the savegames in your \PSP\SAVEDATA\ folder and any video / music / pictures you may have.)

Note: After installing the required files to your memory stick, wait for about 1 minute before closing the

USB connection and disconnecting the USB cable, Sometimes windows will keep the data in memory

and will write that data to the memory stick even after the installation looks like has successfully finished.

What is Custom Firmware??

Custom firmware replaces your PSPs official firmware but it is not a permanent upgrade.

You can easily uninstall the custom firmware and to back to official firmware 1.50

by using the recovery mode if you don't like / don't want to use custom firmware.

Custom Firmware has all the features of the official sony firmware, but also adds the ability

to load homebrew PSP ISOs and PSX EBOOTs directly from the game menu in the XMB.

Custom Firmware also has an option to use 'No-UMD Mode' so you can run your PSP ISOs without a UMD inserted.

The No-UMD mode doesn't have a high compatability rate yet, so only a few games will work with it enabled.

If you have any PSP ISOs in the DAX format then you need to convert them to ISO or CSO using UMDGEN.

Custom Firmware currently doesn't support the DAX format yet but it has planned for the future versions.

You shouldn't need to use devhook to play your ISO/CSO files anymore as 3.10OE compatability rate is very high.

There may be a few games that are not compatible with Custom Firmware so you may need to use Devhook to play some games.

You will need to have a Game or Demo UMD disc in your PSP when you want to run PSP ISOs.

(Movie UMDs will not work and give an 'invalid region' error when starting a PSP ISO)

Your PSPs UMD Drive should be empty while upgrading / downgrading your PSP.

(Except when downgrading from 3.03 as you need the GTA:LCS UMD inserted to start the downgrader)

Remove the UMD you have in your PSP before you do anything in this guide.

If you don't have a USB cable but you have a memory card reader, you can use that instead.

when you see 'connect your PSP to your computer and make a USB connection',

Turn off your PSP, take the memory stick out of your PSP and insert it into your memory card reader.

When you see 'close the USB connection and disconnect your PSP from your computer'

Gathering information about your PSP

Checking your PSP Firmware Version

First you need to check what firmware version your PSP has:

To find your PSP firmware version:

1. In the XMB scroll to the left to 'Settings' (XMB is the main menu of your PSP)

2. Scroll down to 'System Settings' and press 'X'

3. Scroll down to 'System Information' and press 'X'

4. Your firmware version is what is written next to "System Software:"

If the System Software is 1.50, 2.71SE, 3.03OE or 3.10OE then you already have custom firmware.

You can update to the latest version of Custom Firmware by scrolling to the "Installing Custom Firmware" section.

If the System Software is higher then 1.50 then you will need to downgrade.

You need to have firmware 1.50 before you can install the Custom Firmware.

Follow the instructions in this guide on how to downgrade the firmware version that your PSP has.

Checking your PSP Motherboard Model

Next, you need to check what motherboard model your PSP has,

you need to know this so you can use the correct downgrader on your PSP.

1. Open the UMD Door and face the screen away from you.

2. Look in the top left corner of the UMD Door.

3. If there is IC1003 written in gold on the top left then you have a TA-082 or TA-086 PSP.

If there is no gold writing then you have a 'TA-079' PSP.

Upgrading Instructions:

1. Download and unrar the firmware upgrade EBOOT to your hard drive.

2. Plug in your PSP to your computer using a USB cable.

3. Select USB Connection from the 'settings' menu in the XMB

4. Open the Drive letter your computer assigns to your PSP (e.g E:\)

5. Open the "PSP" folder, then open the "GAME" folder.

6. Make a folder called "UPDATE" and make sure it is in caps.

7. Copy the firmware update EBOOT into your "UPDATE" folder on your PSP.

8. Make sure the firmware update file is called "EBOOT.PBP"

9. Close the USB Connection and disconnect your PSP from your computer.

10. Make sure you have a full battery or plug in your PSP into the AC Adaptor.

11. Go to the memory stick under "Game" on your PSP and you should see the PSP firmware update.

12. Highlight the firmware update and press 'start' to start the update.

13. Now follow the on-screen instructions.

14. Once the update has finished, restart your PSP.

15. Now go to Settings > System Settings > System Information and check that the System Software has been updated.

Now you have successfully upgraded your PSP firmware.

Downgrade 2.00 to 1.50

Note: Your virus scanner may give a 'false' alert about a PSP.Brick virus or trojan in one of the TIFF files.

Before the 2.00 downgrader was released there was a 'trojan' being spread that bricked PSPs when run.

It bricked the PSP by writing to the flash memory and erasing some important system files need to start the PSP.

The 2.00 downgrader 'writes' to the flash memory using a similar method so the anti-virus program thinks its the PSP Brick Trojan.

You can upgrade to Firmware 2.71 and use the 2.71 downgrader as an alternate way to downgrade if you want.

Downgrading Instructions:

1. Format your memory stick using your PSP.

2. Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable and make a USB Connection.

3. Unrar the 'Complete 2.00 to 1.50 Downgrader' to your PSP memory stick (e.g E:\).

This will install all the files needed for the downgrade.

4. Close the USB connection and disconnect the PSP from the computer.

5. Plug in AC adaptor and Open the 'Photo' Menu. This will launch the downgrader.

The downgrader will show some numbers and letters on the top of the screen, this means the downgrade worked.

Wait for one minute then turn off your PSP by holding the power button up for 4 seconds until it turns off.

6. Turn on your psp and go to the game menu and launch the 1.50 update boot.

7. Follow the instructions on updating to 1.50.

When the update reaches 99% it will show an error "The update failed... (ffffffff)"

THIS IS OKAY. DO NOT PANIC. Hold the power switch up for 4 seconds until your PSP fully turns off.

8. Turn your PSP back on. You will get a corrupt settings error with a blue background.

Just press the "O" button and your PSP will restart with repaired settings.

your PSP should then go through the setup process again. (set date / time etc)

9. Check the "System Settings > System Information", you should have "Version 1.50"

10. Format your memory stick using your PSP after you've done the setup.

Downgrade 2.71 to 1.50

This downgrader will work on all PSP Motherboard versions.

You will need to have 75% or more battery power to do the downgrade.

This is the latest 'IdStorage Corruption Free' downgrader,

you won't need to repair your IdStorage after using the downgrader.

Required Files:

IdStorage Corruption-Free 2.71 to 1.50 Downgrader:

Downgrading Instructions:

1. Format your memory stick using your PSP.

2. Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable and make a USB Connection.

3. Unrar the '2.71 to 1.50 downgrader' to your PSP memory stick (e.g E:\).

This will install all the files needed for the downgrade.

4. Close the USB connection and disconnect the PSP from the computer.

5. Turn off your PSP by holding the power button for 4 seconds then turn it back on.

(This will give your PSP a 'clean boot' so 'HEN' will have a better chance of loading in step 6.)

6. In the XMB of your PSP go to the Photo menu then open the HEND folder.

Note: It may take a few tries to get HEND to load, the TIFF exploit doesn't load all the time.

If you have a 'custom wallpaper', try setting one as it may increase the chances of HEND loading.

See the 'Customize your PSPs Background Picture section for instructions on setting a custom wallpaper.

If your PSP freezes, restart your PSP and try loading HEND again.

If HEND successfully loaded, you will see a blue screen and then either:

Red: The files couldn't be written to the flash, you will need to keep trying as it doesn't work all the time...

Green: The files were written successfully, The PSP will restart and you can go to the next step.

If you want to check if HEND is loaded, check your 'system firmware version', it should read 2.71-HEND if HEND is loaded.

7. Run the 'TA-082_86_Enabler' from the game > memory stick menu if you have a TA-082 /TA-086 PSP.

The program will detect if your PSP is a TA-082 or TA-086 and will patch it to run 1.50 if its needed.

If you don't run this and have a TA-082 or TA-086 then you will brick your PSP when downgrading in step 8.

8. Run the 'PSP Update ver X.YZ' from 'Game' > 'Memory Stick' to start the downgrader.

9. The rest of the steps are pretty simple, follow the on-screen instructions.

10. When you turn your PSP back on you will get a corrupt settings error with a blue background.

Just press the "O" button and your PSP will restart with repaired settings.

your PSP should then go through the setup process again. (set date / time etc)

If the psp screen stays black when you turn on your PSP,

Try pressing the 'screen brightness' button near the start / select buttons.

For some unknown reason the screen might get put in the 'off' position after the downgrade on some PSPs.

I'm not sure why that happens, but pressing the 'screen brightness' button seems to fix it.

11. Format your memory stick using your PSP after you've done the setup.

Downgrade 2.80 to 1.50

This downgrader will work on all PSP Motherboard versions.

You will need to have 75% or more battery power to do the downgrade.

This is the latest 'IdStorage Corruption Free' downgrader,

you won't need to repair your IdStorage after using the downgrader.

Downgrade 3.03 to 1.50

This downgrader only works on 3.03 firmware so you need to have 3.03 firmware before downgrading

All PSP motherboards can be downgraded. This includes TA-079, TA-082 and TA-086 PSPs.

The downgrader will auto-detect and patch your PSP if it is needed before the downgrade begins.

You will need to have 75% or more battery power to do the downgrade.

You need to use an unpatched UMD copy of "Grand Theft Auto - Liberty City Stories" to do the downgrade.

This downgrader only works with an Unpatched "Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories" UMD.

Unpatched UMDs will have the Firmware 2.00 update on it, UMDs with the 2.60 firmware update will not work.

Finding an unpatched copy of Grand Theft Auto - Liberty City Stories:

Try looking in a local shop that rents or sells used PSP games (See below on finding the correct version)

Do a search on e-bay (I've seen some 'used unpatched' copies sell for over $75USD ohmy.gif)

Try to borrow a copy from your local library, (there may be a bit of wait...)

How to tell if its the correct version without inserting the UMD into your PSP

The game box will have the correct serial even if the game is patched, you can't use the box to tell if its unpatched.

You can tell by looking at the game serial written in small letters on the UMD Disc, you need to look closely at the disc.

1. Make a backup of everything on your memory stick, then format it using your PSP in the settings menu.

2. Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable and make a USB Connection.

3. Unrar the '3.03 to 1.50 downgrader' to your PSP memory stick (e.g E:\).

This will install all the files needed for the downgrade.

4. Close the USB connection and disconnect the PSP from the computer.

5. Insert the unpatched copy of "Grand Theft Auto : Liberty City Stories" into your PSP.

6. Go to the game menu and start the UMD.

7. It should get to loading savegame then the screen will clear to black and fill with a light blue colour.

After this the PSP will reset itself, once you are back in the XMB remove the UMD.

If this does not happen make sure that you have the unpatched verson "Grand Theft Auto : Liberty City Stories"

It should have a 2.00 firmware update on the UMD. If it does not then it is a later version and can not be used to downgrade.

If your PSP turns itself off, turn it on and run the game again, it might take a few tries to get 'HEN' loaded...

8. Check that HEN is running by going to system settings, then to "System Information".

If your System Version is '3.03 HEN' then HEN is loaded, proceed to step 9.

9. Go to the memory stick and run the "Update X.YZ" program.

10. If you have an unpatched TA-082 or higher motherboard you will be prompted to patch your PSP so it can be safely downgraded.

The downgrader will not let you proceed without patching, if your motherboard requires it.,

11. Before the downgrader starts, you need to agree with what it is going to do.

If you no longer want to downgrade, press the "R" (left Shoulder) button.

If you agree to start the downgrade press the "X" button.

Warning: Do not unplug the PSP or try and restart it yourself, doing so will brick your PSP.

12. When the downgrade has finished the PSP, you will need to press X to restart your PSP.

13. If you get a blue screen error saying the settings are corrupt then press O to restore the default settings.

(You will need to re-enter all the settings into your PSP again, like time / date / network settings etc...)

14. Format your memory stick and then you are all done. You should have a Firmware 1.50 PSP. ;D

Note: If your screen goes black after the 'corrupted settings' part but you hear the boot-sound,

Try pressing the 'screen back-light' button thats located near the start / select buttons.

If anyone is wondering on how the 'Noobz' team got around the firmware patch Sony added:

The GTA exploit involves a classic 'buffer overflow' attack, basically the unpatched game does not check that

the size of the savedata (as indicated within the savedata file) is the size that it expects.

You can put larger data in there and overflow the 'memory' it is using to hold the save data.

this lets us overwrite some code and causes the game to jump to the 'downgrade enabler' code.

There were 2 approaches taken to fix it, one by Rockstar and the other by Sony.

The one taken by Rockstar was to fix the game itself so that the game checked the size.

This is what happened on the patched UMD, this is why the downgrader does not work on the patched UMD.

The second one, taken by Sony was used to block existing UMD copies, they added some extra code in the firmware

that deals with loading savegame data, all games go through this bit of firmware code to load their data.

This change to the firmware basically implemented the following code:

1. Does this game ID correspond to one of the versions of GTA? If not, load data and return "OK".

2. Is this save slot one of the ones used by GTA (0-7)? If not, load data and return "OK".

3. Is this save larger than the expected size for GTA games? If not, load data and return "OK".

4. Return "Corrupted save data".

This was an attempt by Sony to limit their patch to valid GTA save games which was a sensible thing to want to do.

The flaw is in line 2, GTA can only save to slots 0-7 but its auto-load will load any data found in another slot (i.e. 8 )

Since we don't actually use GTA to make the exploited save data, it's pretty easy to make a save that is in slot 8.

All of that means that if you make a save in slot 8 or higher, it will completely bypass the patch.

The mistake they made was to make the patch 'too specific'.

The patch in firmware 3.10 and higher is the same as above except that line 2 has been removed.

There is currently no known way to get around the patch in firmware 3.10 or higher.

Warning: If you have any custom PRX plug-in files installed you need to disable them before upgrading.

(Custom Plugins can be disabled by Holding 'R' while turning on your PSP, choosing 'Plugins'

from the main menu and highlighting the enabled plugins and pressing 'X' on them to disable them.)

(This update will fix a bug that caused some UMD / ISO games to show error 0x80020148 when being started.

Extract the update to your GAME150 folder and run the '3.10 OE-A' Update' from the Game menu on your PSP.

3.03OE-C is an older version of the custom firmware

If you are installing 3.10OE then you won't need to download this older installer...

Some people say the 3.03OE-C is more stable and better then 3.10OE-A' so I have left

the old version uploaded in case there are people that want to install the older version...

1. Download the 3.10OE-A Custom Firmware Installer.

2. Connect your PSP to your computer and create a USB Connection.

3. Unrar the 3.10OE-A Custom Firmware Installer:

If you have the Official Sony 1.50 firmware then unrar the installer to the 'PSP / GAME' folder.

If you have Custom Firmware already installed then unrar the installer to the 'PSP / GAME150' folder.

4. Close USB connection and disconnect USB cable from your PSP.

5. Go to the Game folder on your PSP and choose 3.10OE-A Firmware Install.

6. Press "X" to start the upgrade to firmware 3.10OE-A

7. Once 3.10OE-A firmware was been installed you will be asked to press "X" to turn off your PSP.

8. Turn your PSP back on and you will now have Custom Firmware 3.10OE-A Installed.

Updating Instructions:

9. Download the "Custom Firmware Update" file.

10. Connect your PSP to your computer and create a USB Connection.

11. Unrar the "Custom Firmware Update" to your 'PSP / GAME150' folder.

12. Go to the Game > Memory stick menu on your PSP and start the "Custom firmware Update" and apply the update.

Finishing the Install:

13. Format your memory stick using your PSP.

Changing Custom Firmware Settings Using Recovery Mode:

1. Turn off PSP, and turn it back on holding "R" to access recovery mode.

2. Here you can change some options, below is a list of the common options you might want to change:

(Make a note of what the "Game Folder Homebrew" setting is for step 4)

Configuration Menu:

Skip SCE Logo (Skips the PSP Bootscreen and disables UMD Autorun, see note below)

Hide Corrupt Icons (Hides Corrupted Data from showing in the Game Menu)

Game Folder Homebrew (Changes the folder your homebrew goes into, see note below)

Use No-UMD (Run games without a UMD in the PSP, some games may not work properly)

Fake Region (Use if you have UMD movies from regions that are different to your PSP)

Free UMD Region (Removes the region code on your PSP so it can play all UMD Movies)

Registry Hacks Menu:

Button Assign (You can switch the O and X buttons for Confirm and Exit)

Activate WMA (Activate WMA playback without using wireless internet)

Activate Flash Player (Activate the Flash Player without using wireless internet)

Plugins Menu:

Here will be a list of plugin files you put on your memory stick.

Note about the "Game Folder Homebrew" option:

If this option is set to 1.50 Kernel then you need to put:

Firmware 1.00/1.50 homebrew in the "PSP \ GAME" folder.

Firmware 2.71/3.03 homebrew in the "PSP \ GAME303" folderIf this option is set to 3.03 Kernel then you need to put:

Firmware 1.00/1.50 homebrew in the "PSP \ GAME150" folder.

Firmware 2.71/3.03 homebrew in the "PSP \ GAME" folder.

Note about the "Skip SCE Logo" option:

If you only want to disable the UMD autorun, you can do this from the settings menu

in the XMB by going Settings > System Settings > UMD Auto-start: Off

3. Once you have finished with changing the settings in recovery mode, choose "exit" from the main menu.

4. When you are in the XMB, connect your PSP to your computer and make a USB connection.

You may need to make a few folders on your memory stick to store your Homebrew / PSX Games and PSP ISOs:

If your 'Game folder homebrew' is set to 3.03 Kernel:

In the x:\PSP folder you need to make a folder called GAME150 for all your 1.00/1.50 homebrew.

In the x:\PSP folder you need to make a folder called GAME for all your 2.71/3.03 homebrew.If your 'Game folder homebrew' is set to 1.50 Kernel:

In the x:\PSP folder you need to make a folder called GAME303 for all your 2.71/3.03 homebrew.

In the x:\PSP folder you need to make a folder called GAME for all your 1.00/1.50 homebrew.In the x:\ folder you need to make a folder called ISO to hold all your PSP ISO/CSO games.

Using Recovery Mode to Reinstall / Uninstall Custom Firmware

Use the 3.10OE-A Recovery package to re-install 3.10OE-A to recover from a semi-brick,

Recovery Instructions:

1. Turn off your PSP by holding the power button for 4 seconds.

2. Hold the "R" button and turn on your PSP to boot into recovery mode.

3. Connect your PSP to your computer.

4. Select "Toggle USB" and press X, this will enable the USB connection.

5. Unrar the 'Recovery Package' to your PSP memory stick (e.g E:\).

6. On your PSP select "Toggle USB" and press X, this will disable the USB connection.

7. Select "Run program at /PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/EBOOT.PBP" and press X

8. You will start the recovery program, wait while your PSP prepares the files needed to recover.

9. Press X to start the reinstall or the uninstall depending on the package you downloaded.

10. You can delete the /PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/ folder from your memory stick once you have finished.

Installing PSP ISO games onto your PSP

1. Connect your PSP to your Computer.

2. Enable USB connection on your PSP.

3. Copy the CSO/ISO file into the ISO folder on your memory stick.

If you don't have an ISO folder you will need to make one

The ISO folder needs to be created on your 'Memory stick' next to the PSP and MP_ROOT folders.

4. Close the USB Connection and disconnect the USB Cable.

5. Insert a Game or Demo UMD into your PSP. (It must be a Game or Demo UMD, you cannot use a UMD Movie)

The UMD is needed in your PSP to pass the 'UMD Check' the PSP does when starting the ISO.

6. Scroll the 'Game' > 'Memory Stick' menu and you should see your ISO as one of the games on the menu.

7. Highlight your game and press 'Start'

Installing PSX EBOOT games onto your PSP

1. Connect your PSP to your Computer.

2. Enable USB connection on your PSP.

3. Open the PSP \ GAME \ folder.

4. Make a new folder and name it anything you want (e.g name of game).

5. Copy these files from the PSX game into the new folder.

Document.dat (optional)

6. Close USB Connection and disconnect USB Cable.

7. Scroll the 'Game' Menu and you should see your PSX Game.

8. Highlight your game and press 'Start'

Installing Homebrew onto your PSP

The folder you install your homebrew to depends on your "Game homebrew folder" option you set in Recovery.

I have my "Game Folder Homebrew" option set to '1.50 Kernel' since most homebrew is in 1.50 format.

If your "Game homebrew folder" option is set to '3.03 Kernel':

Put 1.00 / 1.50 format homebrew into the PSP \ GAME150 \ folder.

Put 2.71 / 3.03 format homebrew into the PSP \ GAME \ folder.If your "Game homebrew folder" option is set to '1.50 Kernel':

Put 1.00 / 1.50 format homebrew into the PSP \ GAME \ folder.

Put 2.71 / 3.03 format homebrew into the PSP \ GAME303 \ folder.

You can tell what format your homebrew is in by looking at the folders it comes in:

1.00 homebrew has one folder, Its not really common to find a homebrew program in the 1.00 format.

1.50 homebrew has two folders, one folder will have a % symbol in its name and the other won't.

3.03 homebrew has one folder, most homebrew in this format will be only for custom firmware.

If you are unsure what format your homebrew is in, open the readme file that comes with your homebrew program.

Since 1.50 homebrew is the most common, this is how you install 1.50 homebrew on a custom firmware PSP.

Its similar for the other homebrew, but you will have to place it in the correct 'homebrew' folder.

1. Download and unzip the homebrew program into a folder on your hard drive.

2. Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB Cable.

3. Enable USB connection on your PSP from the settings menu.

4. Open your 1.50 homebrew folder, Its normally 'PSP \ GAME150' if you have custom firmware.

5. Copy both folders from your homebrew program into your 1.50 homebrew folder (e.g PSP \ GAME150)

Homebrew and Homebrew%

OR

__SCE__Homebrew and %__SCE__Homebrew

6. Copy any additional files into the folder without the "%" symbol.

e.g If its an emulator you will need to add your Roms / BIOS file.

Read the 'readme.txt' file that came with your homebrew to find out if you need any extra add-on files.

7. Close the USB connection and remove the USB cable.

8. On your PSP go to 'Game' > 'Memory stick', your homebrew should appear in the game list.

9. Select your homebrew and press 'Start'.

Putting Music on your PSP

1. Connect your PSP to your computer, create a USB connection from the settings menu on your PSP.

2. Open the drive letter your computer gives your PSP.

3. Open the PSP folder, then open the Music folder and copy your music files there.

You can put your music in a folder if you want it organized.

You can't have a folder inside a folder like Artist \ Album \ track01.mp3

MP4 AVC/H264 videos go in the folder: x: \ MP_ROOT \ 100ANV01 \ MAQ .mp4

You will need to replace with any 5 numbers like 37626, 92631, etc, it doesn't matter as long as its 5 numbers.

(If you downloaded your video and are unsure what format the video is in, look at the start of the filename for MAQ or M4V)

Customizing Your PSP Background Picture

1. Connect your PSP to your computer and make a USB Connection.

2. Copy any picture file (BMP, JPG etc) in your PSP \ PHOTO folder (The PSP screen resolution is 480x272 pixels)

3. Close the USB Connection and disconnect your PSP from your computer.

4. Open the 'Photo' menu on your PSP and press "X"

5. Scroll to the picture you want as your background and press "X".

6. Press /\ (Triangle) and scroll to "Set as Wallpaper" and press "X"

7. if you already have a wallpaper, you will asked if you want to overwrite it.

- Choose 'Yes' and the wallpaper will be saved to your PSPs flash memory.

8. Press 'O' three times to exit the photo viewer.

9. Scroll to the settings menu and then to "Theme Settings" and press "X"

10. Scroll to wallpaper and press "X" and change it to "Use"

11. You can delete the wallpaper file from your memory stick since the wallpaper is stored in your PSPs Flash Memory.

To change the color your PSP uses for its background when you are not using a wallpaper:

1. Scroll to the settings menu and then to 'Theme Settings' and press "X"

2. Scroll to "Theme" and press "X" and choose a color.

Original will make the color change every month.

note: If you are using a custom wallpaper, this will change the color used on the information menu.

(e.g when you press Triangle on a music / photo / video file.)

Joining Multi-Part Rar files

1. Download and install winrar from

2. Place all parts into the same folder on your hard drive

3. left-click the first part and choose 'Extract to here'.

4. Winrar will open and extract/join the files into one file.

5. You should see your ISO/CSO file, copy it to the ISO folder on your memory stick.

If this is your first time playing an ISO on your memory stick you might need to make the folder yourself.

Open the drive letter your computer gives your PSP Memory stick. (like E:\)

Make a new folder called ISO in the same folder as PSP and MP_ROOT folders your memory stick should already have.

Note: ISO files may look like another winrar file. you can tell if its an ISO when you double click it.

If winrar opens and you see a file and a folder (PSP_GAME and UMD_DATA.BIN) then its an ISO file.

The game could not be started. (80020130)

This is a file read error, if you are trying to play a PSP ISO then your ISO may be corrupted / badly ripped.

If you are trying to play a UMD Disc, the UMD disc or your UMD Drive lens may be dirty.

This could also mean your memory stick has some bad sectors, moving any important files to your computer.

Format your memory stick using your PSP and copy back the files you moved to your computer earlier.

This disc cannot be started. The region code is not correct.

This may occur when trying to play back a UMD Movie thats not from your PSPs Region.

You can change your PSP Region in the 3.10OE-A Recovery menu.

Please check the "Changing 3.10OE-A settings" section for more information.

This may also occur when trying to start a PSP ISO game when a UMD Movie is inserted.

Insert a Game or Demo UMD into your PSP and start the PSP ISO game again.

Connection Error: The WLAN switch is not turned on.

This may occur when trying to make a wireless connection and your WLAN is turned off.

To turn on your WLAN: Slide the switch on the side of your PSP near the analog stick to the "up" position.

How do I...

Stop the UMD from auto-starting?

In your PSPs settings menu, scroll to 'System Settings' and change the 'UMD Auto-Start' Option to Off.

Stop the annoying clicking sound in the XMB?

In your PSPs settings menu, scroll to 'Sound Settings' and change the 'Key Tone' Option to Off.

Enable the flash player and WMA playback without wireless internet?

There are options in the Regisrty Hacks section of 3.10OE-A recovery settings menu to do this.

Switch the "O" and "X" button?

There is an option in the 'Registry Hacks' section of the 'Custom Firmware' recovery settings menu to do this.

The default code is 0000, you will need this code if you want to change the Parental Control Level.
