More Backebergs "Kakteenlexikon" ist vor allem eine Kurzfassung seines monumentalen (sechsbändigen) Lexikons. Der Schwerpunkt liegt hier wie dort auf der wissenschaftlichen Bestimmung der Arten. Fotos gibt es am Ende - vor allem in s/w, in kleinerem Umfang auch in Farbe. Die Hinweise zur Pflege beschränken sich auf 2 Seiten aufs Allerwesentlichste. Die Nutzung der Texte erfordert - im traditionellen Stil der Pflanzenbestimmung - ein ordentliches Maß an Grundkenntnisssen der botanischen Morphologie. Wer die mitbringt, findet im "Kakteenlexikon" eine preiswerte und handliche Alternative zum großen Lexikon. Allerdings geht der Kurzfassung der Charme der großen Ausgabe, in der viele Arten direkt mit Fotos abgebildet werden, etwas ab. Insgesamt ein Buch mit einem gewissen Nutzwert für die Bestimmung, aber keines, in dem man gerne mal schmökert.
