Yet few people have more than a superficial knowledge of the agricultural systems in these countries, or of the changes many of them are undergoing. This study represents an important contribution to our understanding of these changes, with a focus on Asian countries under communist regimes and on Cuba. The author describes their experience, and the ways in which Marxist-Leninist ideology has been adapted in order to meet the prevailing conditions of today. The contributors discuss how the Soviet experience has influenced and sometimes hindered development, and examine in detail the agricultural development and agrarian policies in China, Mongolia, Vietnam and Cuba. checked
