More Colossians, Philemon (NIV Application Commentary) This part of the NIV Application Commentary Series helps readers learn how the message of Colossians and Philemon can have the same powerful impact today that they did when Paul first wrote them. I am a lay pastor with a modest amount of classroom training. This series is very useful for anyone - whether they are a degreed preacher, someone like me, or an individual studying God's Word for themselves. I like the practical, personal aspect of the commentary and that fact makes them very useful. So far, I have only used the commentary on Philemon, but have several other volumes which I have perused at some length. The original context commentary is outstanding. I agree, however with Mr. Choy in his comments about the bridging contexts, and like him, have figured out a way to overcome and use them. I have found the contemporary significance section great for concluding my sermons. I plan to purchase all the volumes over time.
