More Case carburizing has long been a basic technique for the improvement of the wear resistance of steel components. Key to the successful improvement, however, is understanding, interpreting and controlling the microstructure of the carburized case. The eight chapters in this book present information that allows: * Comparison of the effects of variations in steel composition and in carburizing conditions * Estimation of how microstructural variations influence engineering properties such as wear, fatigue and distortion * How to improve the selection of the steel to be carburized, the testing and evaluation of carburized parts and the proper control and adjustment of the carburizing process
