More "The first in a series of specials covering the length and breadth of the larger-than-life legend of Captain America, as told by the industry’s leading experts in the field!" So goes the solicitation for this series of one-shot specials focusing on Captain America, an unabashedly patriotic superhero who first made his appearance in Captain America Comics 1 (March 1941), from Marvel Comics' 1940s predecessor, Timely Comics, and was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. He achieved the height of his popularity during World War II as a symbol of the fight against the Axis powers. This series with the long attention-getting title is definitely a tie-in to Marvel Comics' 70th Anniversary and perhaps also functions as Marvel Comics' subtextual patriotic contribution in honor of the soldiers deployed in the Wars the U.S. is now involved; whatever the aim, it has helped generate renewed interest in this iconic figure of comic book history. There have been six issues published so far, with at least another one scheduled for release on December 2, 2009 entitled, "CAPTAIN AMERICA: THEATER OF WAR: PRISONERS OF DUTY 1." & 8220;Decription CAPTAIN AMERICA THEATER OF WAR: OPERATION ZERO-POINT 1 - Released Oct 29 2008 | 40 Pages | 35.6 MB The first in a series of specials covering the length and breadth of the larger-than-life legend of Captain America, as told by the industry’s leading experts in the field! First up, it’s 1944, and wouldn't you know it? Them sneaky Nazis have managed to crack the secrets of electro-magnetic physics…yeah, that's left: apples may fall down in the free world, but schnitzels are falling up in the skies over a mysterious lab in a Polish forest, thanks to a little help from a nearby forced-labor camp. Sure, we could send in the Marines, but why bother when we've got Captain America?! But even Cap may be meeting his match against the lab's sadistic cybernetic commandant. Because everyone knows, the only thing worse than a Nazi is a Robot Nazi! WRITER: DANIEL KNAUF, CHARLES KNAUF; PENCILS: MITCH BREITWEISER; INKS: MITCH BREITWEISER; COVER BY: MITCH BREITWEISER CAPTAIN AMERICA THEATER OF WAR: AMERICA FIRST! 1 - Released Dec 24 2008 | 55 Pages | 50.7 MB In this second installment of a series exploring the storied history of America's greatest champion, Howard Chaykin pulls back the Iron Curtain on one of Captain America's wiliest nemeses -- Soviet Russia and her never-ending parade of spies, saboteurs, fifth columnists…so many we had to make this story double-sized! Before his role in “The Death of Captain America,†no one was more patriotic than the Cap of the Fifties, even if he does have Steve Rogers’ shoes to fill. Unfortunately, Nick Fury, a newly minted operative of the CIA, isn't about to let him off the hook that easily. But Cap and Fury better start working together, or they'll find themselves buried in Reds! PLUS: a bonus reprinting of a classic Cap tale from the fabulous fifties! From skinny Steve Rogers at boot camp to the Super-Soldier leading a battalion of men against the Nazis, this is the Captain America you thought you knew but you’ve never seen. And when the choice is between his country or his best friend, this is the decision he had to make. But it doesn’t go the way anyone planned, when a German soldier is taken as a prisoner of war and placed in Cap’s care. In his second installment, Paul Jenkins (CAPTAIN AMERICA: AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL) explores the fact and fiction of World War II Captain America, and the good soldiers that followed him into the darkest of days.
