"The first in a series of specials covering the length and breadth of the larger-than-life legend of Captain America, as told by the industry’s leading experts in the field!" So goes the solicitation for this series of one-shot specials focusing on Captain America, an unabashedly patriotic superhero who first made his appearance in Captain America Comics 1 (March 1941), from Marvel Comics' 1940s predecessor, Timely Comics, and was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. He achieved the height of his popularity during World War II as a symbol of the fight against the Axis powers. This series with the long attention-getting title is definitely a tie-in to Marvel Comics' 70th Anniversary and perhaps also functions as Marvel Comics' subtextual patriotic contribution in honor of the soldiers deployed in the Wars the U.S. is now involved; whatever the aim, it has helped generate renewed interest in this iconic figure of comic book history. There have been six issues published so far, with at least another one scheduled for release on December 2, 2009 entitled, "CAPTAIN AMERICA: THEATER OF WAR: PRISONERS OF DUTY 1."

CAPTAIN AMERICA THEATER OF WAR: OPERATION ZERO-POINT 1 - Released Oct 29 2008 | 40 Pages | 35.6 MB

The first in a series of specials covering the length and breadth of the larger-than-life legend of Captain America, as told by the industry’s leading experts in the field! First up, it’s 1944, and wouldn't you know it? Them sneaky Nazis have managed to crack the secrets of electro-magnetic physics…yeah, that's left: apples may fall down in the free world, but schnitzels are falling up in the skies over a mysterious lab in a Polish forest, thanks to a little help from a nearby forced-labor camp. Sure, we could send in the Marines, but why bother when we've got Captain America?! But even Cap may be meeting his match against the lab's sadistic cybernetic commandant. Because everyone knows, the only thing worse than a Nazi is a Robot Nazi! WRITER: DANIEL KNAUF, CHARLES KNAUF; PENCILS: MITCH BREITWEISER; INKS: MITCH BREITWEISER; COVER BY: MITCH BREITWEISER

CAPTAIN AMERICA THEATER OF WAR: AMERICA FIRST! 1 - Released Dec 24 2008 | 55 Pages | 50.7 MB

In this second installment of a series exploring the storied history of America's greatest champion, Howard Chaykin pulls back the Iron Curtain on one of Captain America's wiliest nemeses -- Soviet Russia and her never-ending parade of spies, saboteurs, fifth columnists…so many we had to make this story double-sized! Before his role in “The Death of Captain America,” no one was more patriotic than the Cap of the Fifties, even if he does have Steve Rogers’ shoes to fill. Unfortunately, Nick Fury, a newly minted operative of the CIA, isn't about to let him off the hook that easily. But Cap and Fury better start working together, or they'll find themselves buried in Reds! PLUS: a bonus reprinting of a classic Cap tale from the fabulous fifties! WRITER: HOWARD CHAYKIN; PENCILS: HOWARD CHAYKIN; INKS: HOWARD CHAYKIN; COLORED BY: STUDIO F - EDGAR DELGADO; COVER BY: HOWARD CHAYKIN

CAPTAIN AMERICA THEATER OF WAR: AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL 1 - Released Jan 21 2009 | 61 Pages | 57.6 MB

The third in a series chronicling the adventures that made Captain America the hero we know today, Paul Jenkins (MYTHOS) does what he does best, weaving a tale of war, brotherhood and legacy. From skinny Steve Rogers at boot camp to the Super-Soldier leading a battalion of men against the Nazis, this is the Captain America you thought you knew but you’ve never seen. And when the choice is between his country or his best friend, this is the decision he had to make. WRITER: PAUL JENKINS; PENCILS: GARY ERSKINE; INKS: GARY ERSKINE; COVER BY: STEVE EPTING

CAPTAIN AMERICA THEATER OF WAR: A BROTHER IN ARMS 1 - Released Apr 29 2009 | 38 Pages | 23.7 MB

On the night of March 25th, 1945, twenty-three men of the Second Battalion of the United States Army Rangers undertook one of the most daring raids of World War Two, led by none other than Captain America. But it doesn’t go the way anyone planned, when a German soldier is taken as a prisoner of war and placed in Cap’s care. In his second installment, Paul Jenkins (CAPTAIN AMERICA: AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL) explores the fact and fiction of World War II Captain America, and the good soldiers that followed him into the darkest of days. An all-new story of the original Captain America! WRITER: PAUL JENKINS; PENCILS: JOHN MCCREA; COVER BY: MITCH BREITWEISER

CAPTAIN AMERICA THEATER OF WAR: TO SOLDIER ON 1 - Released Aug 12 2009 | 44 Pages | 16.4 MB

During the battle for Baghdad at the height of the Gulf War, a young Army sergeant witnesses first hand the heroism of a United States super soldier. But a life-altering event will lead him to question the very person he had idolized. Can the symbol of America’s military might understand the plight of an ordinary soldier who has paid an unimaginable price? WRITER: Paul Jenkins; PENCILS: Fernando Blanco; INKS: Fernando Blanco;COLORED BY: Marta Martinez; LETTERED BY: Dave Lanphear; COVER BY: Phil Noto

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THEATER OF WAR: GHOSTS OF MY COUNTRY 1 - Released Oct 7 2009 | 37 Pages | 28.1 MB

Paul Jenkins’ (MYTHOS) run on Theater of War comes to a close, in this, his most personal and poignant tale of the legacy of Captain America. From America’s first Independence Day, through wars that nearly tore the country apart, to the rebirth of a nation, the spirit of Captain America has always been with us. And no one embodies that better than Steve Rogers. WRITER: Paul Jenkins; COVER BY: Jackson Guice -- marvel.com& 8221;
