"The Brookings Papers on Economic Activity", long one of Brookings' signature publications, has new leadership. The two incoming editors have both made outstanding contributions to economic research and the communication of economic ideas to a broad audience. They will ensure that BPEA continues to be a central meeting place for leading scholars analyzing important economic problems. The new editorial team will retain BPEA's focus on empirical research of current issues in macroeconomics and economic policy, emphasizing real-world events and institutions. The journal will uphold its tradition of excellence in areas such as fiscal and monetary policy, labor markets, wages and prices, the distribution of income and wealth, international capital flow, and international trade and development. Tentative contents include: Do Tax Cuts Starve the Beast; The Effect of Tax Changes on Government Spending authored by Christine Romer (Council of Economic Advisers) and David Romer (University of California-Berkeley); Why Doesn't Capitalism Flow to Poor Countries authored by Rafael Di Tella (Harvard University) and Robert MacCulloch (Imperial College, London); Causes and Consequences of the Oil Shock of 2007-08 authored by James Hamilton (University of California, San Diego); Human Capital and Growth: Sorting Out the Relationship authored by Philippe Aghion (Harvard University) and Leah Boustan (UCLA); The Financial Crisis: An Inside View authored by Phillip Swagel (former assistant secretary for economic policy, U.S.Treasury Department); and, Understanding Inflation-Indexed Bond Markets authored by John Campbell (Harvard University), Robert Shiller (Yale University), and Luis Viceira (Harvard University).
