Britain and Spain are now both members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the European Community. Yet the tiny strategic peninsula of Gibraltar still acts as the barometer of Anglo-Spanish relations. In this study, the authors chart the course of negotiations over the question of sovereignty since the end of the Second World War. They argue that Gibraltar has played a much more proactive role in relations, and describe the objectives and actions of the Gibraltarians and their claim for self-determination.
