More Boeing B-17B-H Flying Fortress (Aircam Aviation 15) By Richard Ward The most effective method open to a World War II USAAF instructor anxious to stir a lazy group of students into renewed effort was for him to announce that only the top ten per cent of the class could expect assignment to a B-17 unit; and the eagerness of students to become Fortress aircrew was equalled by the enthusiasm of seasoned veterans. Any one-lime Fortress crew member will declare without hesitation that the Boeing B-17 was the greatest bomber ever built.
