This disc chronicles the recordings of Bill Haley for Holiday Records & Essex Records before he signed to Decca Records and had what became his biggest hits. By the time Bill Haley & The Saddlemen signed with Essex Records they had given up country & western music (which he recorded under the name Bill Haley and the Four Aces of Western Swing in the 1940s). The recordings here represent some of the earliest rock & roll songs ever recorded. All of the songs on this disc were recorded at America's East Coast state, Pennsylvania.

The first track, Rocket "88", is a cover version of the 1951 recording produced by Ike Turner and performed by Jackie Brenston and the Delta Cats at Sun Records for release by Chess Records. While the Jackie Brenston version may be the first rock & roll record, Bill Haley's recording has the distinction of being the first rock & roll recording made by a caucasian. Elvis Presley wouldn't begin recording for another three years. Bill Haley has been remembered chiefly for his historical importance but this disc showcases some excellent rock & roll songwriting with tunes like "Crazy Man, Crazy" and "Fractured".
