More Benjamin Franklin (Portable Professor) A university-level course on the life and impact of Benjamin Franklin, as taught by H.W. Brands, author of The First American: The Life and Times of Benjamin Franklin. H.W. Brands writes great history books and he is also a very engaging speaker. He has made numerous appearances on C-SPAN to talk about various historical subjects. I didn't know if I would like the "Portable Professor" b/c, from what I can tell, its just an author giving lectures to a microphone. There seems to be no audience. Usually this makes for poor lectures. While I can't speak for the other Portable Professor products, this one by Brands on Benjamin Franklin is excellent. Brands is very interesting, regardless of who is listening. If you like American History, I promise you will not be disappointed with Dr. Brands. Mirror
