Uniao Black was one of the main groups from Brazil's Black Rio Movement of the late 70's, a real life thirteen musician super band. Twenty five years later Uniao Black puts out another album full of new songs, recorded in Brazil. A quarter of a century down the line and Banda Uniao Black have decided to re-enter the fray with a new album of brand-spanking material - reigniting the rhythmic touch paper that made their original work so essential. For those who don't know, a mega-brief history lesson... Uniao Black were a principle band in the Black Rio Movement of 1970's Brazil, disbanding before their debut album was ever released and a becoming a much discussed and sought after musical force. Having been reunited for B+ and Eric Coleman's 'Keepintime' project, the surviving thirteen members set about rekindling the magic with a crucible of freshly nostalgic funk and Latin work outs (think Marcos Valle, Joyce and Ed Motta). Produced by Daniel Collas and overflowing with humid styles, tracks like 'Everyone's A Winner', 'Yeah Yeah Yeah' and 'Been So Long' strut along with unbridled relish - pulling in strands of hip-hop, funk, soul, disco and Latino, then knitting them together with expert aplomb. Contemporary but with an eye on the past, Banda Uniao Black proves that a quarter of a century need not age you a day. Back in black.
