Kopplungsgeschäfte und sogenannte 'Lockvogelangebote' sind ein gängiges und effektives Marketinginstrument, um neue Kunden zu gewinnen. Unklar ist, wie Kopplungsgeschäfte, die über einen Bilanzstichtag hinaus wirken, weil sie z.B. eine längerfristige Dienstleistungskomponente beinhalten, bilanziell zu behandeln sind. Am Beispiel von Handy-Subventionen (Abschluss eines zweijährigen Mobilfunkdienstleistungsvertrags in Verbindung mit dem Kauf eines Handys für 1,- Euro) untersucht Alexandra Coenenberg, ob bei solchen Kopplungsgeschäften ein aktiver Bilanzansatz, z. B. ein immaterielles Wirtschaftsgut, eine Forderung oder ein aktiver Rechnungsabgrenzungsposten, anzusetzen ist. Sie kommt zu dem Ergebnis, dass nur der sofortige Betriebsausgabenabzug zu einem rechtlich systematisch richtigen Ergebnis führt. Anschließend zeigt sie in einer ökonomischen Analyse die steuerlichen und wirtschaftlichen Konsequenzen der unterschiedlichen bilanziellen Behandlung auf.
