Stefan Einhorn, "A Concealed God: Religion, Science, and the Search for Truth"

Highly acclaimed in Sweden where it was first published in both hardcover and paperback editions, A Concealed God poses two intriguing questions: Does God truly exist? If so, is the concept of God logical and in agreement with the knowledge of the world that science has provided to date? The God presented by most religions doesn't make sense in today's world; we have little room for miracles. Furthermore, there are irreconcilable aspects in the world's religions. Must we abandon our faith or belief in God? Perhaps not, says popular Swedish thinker Stefan Einhorn. We can behave as scientists do when they run experiments only to obtain contradictory results. They ask themselves whether there might not be a logical conclusion that binds all the results together and leads to the most probable explanation.

Einhorn hypothesizes that if God truly exists, then many different religions would have discovered this. He finds a common denominator in the concept of a hidden God in seven major religions: Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism. But even with this shared belief, can we know if God exists? Did humankind create the idea of God to answer the unexplainable? What about evil and suffering, the absence of meaning in life, loneliness and insecurity? And most importantly, how do we search for a concealed God? Most religions share common principles for the search for "that which is concealed," including meditation, contemplation, and prayer. Whatever route is chosen, the search for God may bring us some answers. Einhorn concludes that two themes are central to the search: one is that God is both concealed and simultaneously omnipresent; the other is that only with utter humility and an awareness of our inability to fully understand may we approach the divine. In the end, there are no definite answers. But the search sheds light on the many paths to enlightenment offered by the world's religions.

Only stupid ppl belive in god. It helps'em to explain complex things in simple ways, cause they are lazy to think about things in life.

The "god existance world" model is good for those who don't want to take responsibility for their thoughts & actions.

A friend of mine loves to say one post from one internet forum "Fear believers cause they have their gods who forgive'em all."

God and science go together like peanut butter and jelly. Mmmmmm... yummy.

You are mixing up 2 things. Religion and the existance of god. Religion can be responsible for what you say, yes. But the existance of a higher power is something that can and must be detached from religion and looked into seriously. Let me point out that I am not a relegious person, nor would I say that I believe that there is a god too much, but I dont exclude that possibility... in fact I am VERY CURIOUS to find out!

The more I learn about science and understand how slim the possibility was for everything to be just left in order for this universe to exist, the more I am persuaded that it might not be a total accident. Either that, or we must believe that there are infinite parallel universes with different constants and we just happen to be in the one that didnt collapse or fail. More and more questions arise when you study cosmology and quantum theory. The more I study about the false reality of what we THINK is our universe the more I question my preconceived notions fed to me by the system and I always thought were true. The truth of the matter is that the universe is FAR STRANGER than what science can even conceive at the time being. I believe that there is a great truth to be discovered that will be very alarming to humanity and that humans ARE capable of discovering it with time.. as long as we dont destroy our civilization first.

Its easy calling people who believe in something more that what is perceivable to be "ignorant", but its funny that most people who claim to be people of science dont really understand how strange the universe really is. So the way I see it, is that both sides should just shut up, dont deny anything, dont accept anything as total truth either, and lets keep searching for answers.

I have not heard this view by many... I believe that people should be asking questions and looking at answers as parts of a puzzle that is not complete. the more peices of the puzzle you find, the more you realize that the first picture you thought you had, means something compleatly different. This has happened with science in the past, and I love reading about the history of science.

Therefor I suggest people to not be to hasty to say they know everything, and that includes the existance of god or not. Who can possibly know that? You cannot reject it either just because you have no proof yet of its existence. Thats why I prefer to just shut up and keep asking questions and searching and learning.

This is the proper way of discovery... and everything else FAILS!
