1 古埃及金字塔(埃及) 1789 年 7 月 21 日,拿破仑率领他的远征军来到了埃及。当他在开罗遭 遇到埃及统治者毛拉德本人指挥的阻拦时,面对着穆斯林的弯刀,这位科西 嘉的小个子指着金字塔向他的欧洲刺刀们发了话。他说:“4 000 年的历史 在蔑视你们!” 显然,拿破仑对埃及怀有无比的敬意和深刻的理解。金字塔,这些矗立 在荒漠中的巨大枯寂而冰冷的石头,的确代表着埃及那曾盛极一时而又被人 遗忘的历史, 代表着远在没有伊斯兰教之前就早已死去的世界。 作为古代 “世 界七大奇迹”中唯一的幸存者,它们沉默而高傲地永远屹立,甚至骄傲如罗 马人,在古埃及人的这些杰作面前,也不得不承认自己的能力是微不足道而 又短暂的。 众所周知,金字塔是古埃及法老(Pharoah,意为“宫殿”,借指国王) 的巨大陵墓。在中美洲的原始森林里也有类似的古建筑,但它们是庙宇,而 非陵墓。埃及的法老们为什么要用这些耸立在苍穹之下的石头来作自己死后 的栖身之所呢? 原来,古埃及人的宗教信仰使他们相信:人的肉体死亡以后,灵魂是永 存的。死后的前程十分远大,但首要的一点是必须妥善保管遗体,保证它万 无一失,让那自由飘荡的灵魂和护身魂有家可归并能找到回家的路。他们对 死后的世界是如此地深信不疑,无怪有人说:“埃及人的生活就是走向死亡 的历程。”死后永生的信念导致了两件事情的发生:一是干尸即木乃伊的制 做;一是坚固宏伟的坟墓的修建。在后者上面体现的追求稳固坚实之风到金 字塔达到了极巅,埃及人也从而成为世界上最伟大的建筑者。
