More 475 FG (Fighter Group) 1943 - 1945 (Air Miniatures 16) By Andre R. Zbiegniewski light through the clouds engulfing the Owen Stanley mountain range was not pleasant. The range was famous for it's traitorous weather, which would fully show it's potential on August 16th, 1943. Berry airfield, lying 12 miles to the northwest of Port Moresby, had been bustling with preparations for the inauguration flight since morning. The one-and-a-half-kilometer long runway cut out in the jungle was being filled with planes positioning for take-off and with feverish members of the "Hades" Squadron. In other words - the 431."Hades" Fighter Squadron, abbreviated to 475.FS. It was one of the three squadrons making up the 475.Fighter Group (or the 475.FG) of the USAAF. In a draw of lots carried out on the previous day, blind fate decided that they would be the ones to carry out the mission. Great! Thanks
