More By Alan Kemp THIS book shows the development of the uniforms and equipment of the 15th The King's Hussars from the raising of the Regiment in 1759 to the end of the full-dress era in 1914. Whilst it is not possible in a book of this size to record every order of dress, and the numerous minute alterations over 250 years, all major changes are fully documented. In the limited space I have tried to give more detailed accounts of the earlier uniforms when items of dress were peculiar only to the 15th. I have not concentrated so much on later orders of dress (eg, khaki frock 1900) as these were common to many regiments at the time and consequently details of them are easier to come by. The illustrations have been drawn from information collected from contemporary documents and prints, dress regulations and actual items in the possession of the Regiment. In 1922 the 15th Hussars were amalgamated with the 19th Hussars, forming the 15th/19th The King's Royal Hussars. I regret neglecting the 19th but considered that since so many basic changes of dress affected all hussar regiments, and since the 15th were the elder of the two, a more comprehensive study could be produced by concentrating on them alone.
